UntitledRay Danner, founder of Shoney’s restaurant chain, created The Bootstraps Foundation in to recognize young men and women in the greater Nashville are (MSA) for having “pulled themselves up by the bootstraps.”   Annually, high schools may nominate a senior for our scholarships. While all of these young people excel in their school work, their home or personal lives are challenging or chaotic. They may live with parents who have substance abuse or mental health problems, live in extreme poverty, or even live with wonderful families but suffer from a debilitating injury or disease. Yet these students have persevered and succeeded. At Bootstraps, we like to say that we Reward Perseverance with Opportunity.

Untitled1Words from a Donor. “We see families from all walks of life in our business, and know firsthand the challenges children can face in trying to further their education”, says Mike Hoover, owner of Accurate Mortgage and a full Scholarship sponsor. “Providing a scholarship to a child who is facing adversity and choosing to excel is an awesome way to give back.”

Untitled2Comments from our Scholars. Renee said “I would like to take the time to thank you for all of your support. I would never have been able to enjoy the experience of a college education if it wasn’t for all of you kind people.” Samantha wrote: ” I’ve really enjoyed my education, though it can be absolutely exhausting and stressful most of the time. I’ve had some wonderful professors at both universities and have made some great friends and memories that I’ll always cherish. I’m very grateful for my education and for the all the experiences I’ve had so far.”
