We’re in the throes of summer in Middle Tennessee and sometimes you just need a cool escape to beat the beat. With Nashville being such a boom town, there is no end to fun summer activities, but some of them are a little “cooler” than others.
Here are six summer activities in Nashville to beat the heat!
Top Golf is a new state-of-the-art golf facility where the weather is always perfect. Golfers play in climate-controlled playing “bays” (sort of like an alley at a bowling alley.) Top Golf Nashville also has a large indoor area with HDTVs and a bar for ice cold beverages.
Nashville Shores, a water park located at beautiful Percy Priest Lake, has something for everyone, plus a beautiful view of the lake. Whether you are a lazy river kind of fan, love the thrill of water slides or wave pool, you can spend the entire day at Nashville Shores and not get bored. It’s a great place to take the entire family as there is something for every age. Barefootin’ Bay is perfect for younger kids. It features 35 interactive water features, spray toys, mini-slides, and a tipping bucket to drench guests below.
There’s nothing better on a hot day than popcorn and a matinee! Try a different movie experience at the Belcourt in Hillsboro Village, completely remodeled in 2016, or the beautiful Franklin Theatre in downtown historic Franklin. Both venues offer classics as well as newer releases. And if you’re looking for something a little stronger than a soft drink to wash down your concessions, both serve wine and beer.
Ice Cream and Frozen Treats
There’s really no end to great ice cream shops in Nashville. From Las Paletas handcrafted popsicles near 12 South to Jeni’s which now has three locations, to old school favorite Bobbie’s Dairy Dip on the West Side or Elliston Place off West End, you can easily hit a different frozen treat destination every week this summer!
You’ll have to drive across the border to Kentucky to view some of the most amazing caves in the U.S., but with temperatures year round in the 50s, it’s a great day trip to beat the heat. Mammoth Cave National Park, just outside of Bowling Green, Kentucky, is open year round (closed only on Christmas Day.) Mammoth Cave is the world’s longest known cave system, with more than 400 miles (643 km) explored. Mammoth Cave offers several ranger-led tours.
Nashville has a couple of options for ice skating enthusiasts: the Ford Ice Center in Antioch or Centennial Sportsplex near downtown. In 2019 a second Ford Ice Center is scheduled to open in Bellevue.
