It’s officially summer in Nashville, one of the hottest destinations in the country. Luckily for Nashvillians we get to enjoy our beautiful city year round and summer break is one of the best times to catch a local festival, live music or live sports, such as Nashville Sounds baseball at First Tennessee Park.

We’ve compiled a list of just a few of the many upcoming Middle Tennessee family friendly events to mark off your summer bucket list (with most of them free!) Here’s to summer fun in Nashville!

Bluegrass Along the Harpeth July 27-18

This two-day bluegrass music festival features food trucks, craft booths and an art show. The Friday night music concert will include a dancing exhibition; Saturday features open bluegrass music and old time dancing competitions. Free to the public. For more information, visit their website.

Tomato Art Fest August 10-11

The 15th annual Tomato Art Fest is a celebration in East Nashville featuring art, music, food, costumes, contests, shopping, kids activities and more. The Tomato Art Fest Push, Pull & Wear Parade will feature floats that can be pushed, pulled, carried or worn on your body. Visit for more information on this family-friendly event.

Shakespeare in the Park August 9-September 16

Love the arts? The Nashville Shakespeare Festival’s “Shakespeare in the Park” has been bringing theater under the stars at the Centennial Park band shell for 30 years. This year’s featured play is the classic “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” performed at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays-Sundays Aug. 9 through Sept. 9 in Centennial Park, and Sept. 13-16 in Academy Park in Franklin. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs and picnic under the stars. Free event with a suggested $10 donation.

Lawnchair Theater June-August

Jailhouse Industry’s outdoor Lawnchair Theater takes place on Fridays at dusk at 4144 Old Hillsboro Road in beautiful Leiper’s Fork. The movie line up features classics and family movies. VIsit for more information.

2018 Williamson County Fair August 3-11

The 2018 Williamson County Fair will be held August 3-11 at the Williamson County Agricultural EXPO Park, 4215 Long Lane, in Franklin, Tennessee. This family-friendly event celebrates agricultural education in Williamson County and features midway rides and lots of attractions. New to 2018’s lineup is Ma’Ceo, an equestrian acrobatic show that will take place inside a large tented area in the Fair Village. For more information, visit
